Over the past decade, more than one thousand illustrated law books have been assembled in the Yale Law Library by its Rare Book Librarian, Michael Widener, spanning eight centuries and four continents. A major exhibition of the collection, entitled “Law’s Picture Books: The Yale Law Library Collection,” will be on display from September 13 until November 18, 2017, at the Grolier Club in New York City, curated by Widener and legal historian Mark S. Weiner. In challenging the stereotype of legal literature as a dreary expanse of dry text, “Law’s Picture Books” will surprise and delight both book lovers and the legal community.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Curators’ tours will occur at 1:00pm on September 21, October 5, and November 2. No registration is required.
