The Out of the Desert Project presents a three-day symposium to mark the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066, which paved the way for the WWII incarceration of Japanese Americans.

This symposium will bring together key stakeholders from the Japanese American community, along with academics, public historians, curators, artists, activists, and museum specialists. Alongside public lectures and round table discussions, the symposium will feature workshops related to best practices for historic preservation, digitization, curation, and digital interpretive projects. Taking an expansive view of incarceration, internment, and confinement, this symposium explores longer genealogies of race and exclusion in America, highlighting their urgent relevance to our contemporary moment.
