Sherry Zaks received her Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied comparative politics, international relations, and political methodology. Her dissertation examines the conditions under which rebel groups are able to transform into political parties in the aftermath of civil wars. She draws on organizational sociology to develop a comprehensive model of insurgent organizations and trace how wartime structures either facilitate or inhibit rebel-to-party transformations.

For the 2017-2018 academic year, she will be a post-doctoral fellow at the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College.
