Turning Waste into Food: A Sheetmulching Party!

Event time:
Monday, October 9, 2017 - 3:00pm
Location:
Kroon Hall (KRN), The Yale Community Forest Garden See map
195 Prospect Street
New Haven, CT 06511

Come for a fun, hands-on afternoon in the Yale Community Forest Garden!

We’ll learn how to take waste products–like cardboard,
newspapers, straw, and compost–and turn them into nutritious and
healthy soils that can be used to grow abundant food. Together in
just a couple hours we will completely transform a Yale courtyard
into a luscious perennial bed, without ever stooping to pull a
single “weed”. Come have fun, get your hands in the soil, and
learn about easy and innovative ways to replenish the earth. We
recommend wearing closed-toed shoes and clothes you don’t mind
getting a little dirty. Gloves and refreshments provided!

The Yale Community Forest Garden is an edible garden located
between Kroon and Sage hall. It’s an educational and productive
space that demonstrates how thoughtful, ecological landscaping
can reap huge rewards. When you come by to sheet mulch, you’ll
also learn about great edible and medicinal native plants, and
how to approach landscaping from a multifunctional perspective.
