The Yale School of Architecture (YSoA)presents the work of graduate and undergraduate architecture students from the 2016-2017 academic year in its annual year-end show.

The work on display demonstrates a wide range of disciplinary, interdisciplinary, formal, and representational interests — reflecting the school’s foundational belief that architecture is never just one thing, but instead a constellation of possibilities, and that architects first and foremost must dedicate themselves to the physical expression of human values and the production of convivial settings for human activity, say the organizers.

In the main gallery space, this year’s graduates from the M.Arch, M.E.D., and undergraduate programs present selections from the entire course of their studies in architecture, offering their best models and drawings for detailed examination.

In addition to this showcase of individual students, one wall of the central space is dedicated to the many detailed plans developed by second-year M.Arch I students to re-energize the canals and mills of downtown Lowell, Massachusetts. On view elsewhere in the room is a diverse collection of work from seminar classes, ranging in form from a 12-foot-long watercolor frieze of famous British landscapes to a well-designed shelf of books.

In the South Gallery, drawings and models are displayed from each project nominated for the H.I. Feldman Prize, given annually for the best solution of an architectural problem. Each of these projects was selected by individual critics in each graduate advanced studio and reviewed by the entire design faculty.

In the North Gallery, projects from the first stage of the Jim Vlock Building Project are on display; six teams of students in the first year of the M.Arch I program competed for the chance to design and build housing in New Haven. Work from the Building Project will also be on display at this year’s International Festival of Arts and Ideas.
