On 4 November 2016, a symposium in honor of the 175th Salisbury anniversary celebration took place, entitled “Edward Salisbury and the Ancient Near East.” The speakers included Benjamin R. Foster (Yale), Suzanne Marchand (LSU), Eckart Frahm (Yale), and Gojko Barjamovic (Harvard). Karen Foster (Yale) introduced the event and moderated the lively question periods. The symposium and the reception that followed were sponsored by the Yale Babylonian Collection, the Viscusi Fund of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, and the Council on Middle East Studies, and were also funded in part by a U.S. Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center grant.
